Ibogaine Safety

Iboga Safety

New Life Iboga Costa Rica places ibogaine safety of our patients as our highest priority. We offer ceremonies based on traditional iboga use while applying a western medical approach. We require all patients to do some pre-screening to be certain ibogaine treatment can be safely administered.

A member of  New Life Iboga staff will first go over a medical screening form to gather information about your medical background. Based on the answers to these questions, we will determine what tests need to be done to determine if an individual is a candidate for ibogaine treatment. These tests usually include blood work and an EKG.

An EKG is required because ibogaine can affect the heart and we need to be certain the heart is healthy enough to under go ibogaine treatment. An EKG tells us where the resting heart rate is and how the heart is behaving. If your EKG is approved for treatment, we also take patients to receive an additional EKG the day prior or day of treatment.

The blood work tells us different things depending on what tests are determined to  be necessary, but the purpose is always maximize ibogaine safety and to make sure that all levels are normal to prevent the possibility of any negative affects from ibogaine treatment.

New Life Iboga employs an on-site Medical Doctor. She is available for consults with all patients upon arrival. She is present at all ceremonies and on grey day, the day following ibogaine treatment.

During ibogaine treatment we continually check the pulse and oxygen saturation every 20 minutes to be sure the patient stays in a normal/safe range. We have medical equipment on site in case any emergency situation should arise. We have a heart defibrillator, oxygen tank and emergency medications. In the case of an emergency our doctor responds and determines the best course of action.

New Life Iboga is located a short drive from a full service hospital. Although we do everything we can to prevent the possibility of any emergency situations by implementing a rigorous medical screening process, we anticipate and prepare for every possibility to provide the highest level of safety for our patients.
