AYAHUASCA IN THE UK
*NOTE - We do not offer ceremonies or retreats in UK United Kingdom, this page is for informational purposes only.*
The UK is a progressive country yet it has not made many strides in adopting psychedelic therapy for its residents. Plant medicines like ayahuasca, psilocybin, and ibogaine are illegal with no accepted therapeutic use. With more worldwide psychedelic studies underway, it is hopeful that in the coming years as we see an even greater shift in the view of plant medicine and more opportunities for the application of psychedelic therapy in countries where it is currently illegal, like the UK.
There are some countries like Portugal and Spain that have decriminalized status for most psychedelics that may offer retreats or ceremonies, and you can even find ayahuasca ceremonies in the UK if you know where to look but you need to be careful and be informed about who is running the ceremonies and who you will be drinking with.
Ayahuasca is an extremely powerful medicine and should be approached with great respect. While some ceremonies are led by facilitators who are properly trained, many are hosted by inexperienced enthusiasts hoping to spread the message of the plants. This notion is admirable in principle but irresponsible in practice.
If you find an ayahuasca ceremony in the UK it is important to ask some of the following questions to ensure you have a safe and therapeutic experience with the medicine :
-
Who is facilitating the ceremony?
-
How much experience do they have?
-
Where will the ceremony be held?
-
How many people typically attend?
-
Are there 'sitters' or 'helpers' beside the ayahauscquero/shaman to assist if someone needs help and if yes, how many are available, and if there is at least 1 female present
-
Where does the brew come from and what does it contain?
-
Do you need to provide any medical information before participating (you should, as ayahuasca has medical contraindications with other drugs, see our safety page)
